Map Your Future Project Underway

Communities for Resilience
Together with our environmental justice community-based organization partners PODER, in the Mission/Excelsior of San Francisco; and YUCA, in East Palo Alto; we are working to develop a nationally replicable model for growing community power and the leadership of youth of color to shape public planning processes. Through Map Your Future, youth leaders of color are: Mapping the climate resilience assets and risks in their communities, Engaging in community-based participatory action research, Building stronger relationships with city planners and public agency staff volunteering as project advisors and participating in a youth mentorship program, and Developing maps, policy recommendations and organizing campaigns to create more equitable, healthy, livable and resilient communities. Celebrating Victories for Community-based Clean Energy

The Local Clean Energy Alliance and the Oakland Climate Action Coalition's Clean Energy and Jobs Oakland Campaign are celebrating two momentous victories: moving forward with Community Choice energy in Alameda County, and defeating AB 2145, the Utility Monopoly Power Grab of 2014. Advancing Community Choice Clean Energy in the East Bay On June 3rd, with the support of a hundred community members, Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to work to establish a Community Choice energy program for the East Bay. Much work remains to implement the vision of our Clean Energy and Jobs Oakland Campaign: significant local build-out in community-based renewable energy resources to create quality, unionized family-sustaining jobs, especially for low-income communities of color most impacted by pollution and climate change.
