Bay Localize & Victory Garden Foundation Throwdown Highlights

Bay Localize and Victory Garden Foundation partnered to host “Seed & Weed’s,” a garden project for Ella Baker Center’s Second Annual Throw Down for the Town Oakland Service festival Saturday July 28, 2012. Over 34 volunteers came out to roll up their sleeves seed, weed, dig, and plant fruits and vegetables in the Telegraph Ministry Center Garden; even in the front yard for public comsumption. All the hard work and dedication increased production to provide fresh, organic produce for the center’s food pantry. The achievements and rewards for the day were plentiful and extended far beyond a gardening project, but rather building community to model the significance and impact of sustainability and resilience. Solving the challenges before us starts in transforming our own neighborhoods and honoring the important role that each person plays in creating a vibrant and thriving community.

There’s Gardening every Saturday, 9 am – 11 am and on Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30 am harvest for the clients of Telegraph Center’s food pantry. Come on out anytime and get down and dirty. 5316 Telegraph Ave between 52nd and 55th Streets, Oakland CA 94609.
